Swair’s Thinking and Religion
Well, the bad day i wanted to talk about last time happened on Wednesday… At my morning class in Tarbia, the doc came into the class with some chick who had a huge envelope with her.. She gave out papers that turned out to be questionnaires… Now when we’re usually given questionnaires, they’re usually about our psychological health, the technology we use in researches and the various ways we study… But this time it was different. They gave us a questionnaire that had statements. All we had to do was choose whether or not we “Agreed”, “Not Sure”,”Disagreed”, or “Totally Disagreed”… Now when i read the statements, i was shocked. The questionnaire’s in Arabic but here’s an example of what most of those statements went like:
1- Rich Muslims should always support and give money to Muslim Mujahideen. (note from me: aka Suicide Bombers and Criminals)
2- You must teach your children at a young age that ALL Westerners and Israelis (jews) are enemies of God.
3- You must teach your children at a young age that ALL Westerners and Israelis (jews) are out there to kill us Muslims and rape our countries.
4- “Terrorism” is a filthy word made up by all Westerners and Israelis (jews) just to label Muslims.
5- Niqab is a must in muslim countries. All Muslim Women should be forced to wear Niqab.
6- All Muslims should fight and defend their rights and principles NO MATTER WHAT. (note from me: as in using violence)
7- Muslim mujahideen only restored to violence when all other methods for peace have failed.
8- Muslims should always be cautious around non-muslims.
The whole time i was doing the Questionnaire, i was so shocked and repeating “what the hell?!”
the other thing that bothered me was the fact that the lady giving out the papers was all happy and cheery, and she kept saying things like “don’t be afraid, all this is confidential and private” even though it was written in the first page… Now they didn’t ask for names, but on the last page they asked about how many brothers i have and what my dad’s job and salary was…
ppl… Please tell me i’m not the only one freaking out about this!
i mean, if the questionnaire was just for a research paper about the precentage of terrorist-thinking students in KU (specifically Tarbia), then i hope they DO something about it… I don’t want to be in the same breathing space, let alone college, with the Next Bin Laden! but on a bigger negative side: what if they’re gonna throw the papers away and just be happy that the sentences put ideas in people’s heads?!
now i know it’s just a stupid questionnaire, and that i shouldn’t concern myself with it, but the statements were REALLY scary… I mean, i do feel disappointed when i see how muslims are labeled terrorists on TV, but when given a paper like that and expecting me to say yes to ANY one of the statements, is just mind-blowing…
how can people think that way? don’t they feel narrow-minded and stupid? don’t they feel like there are new horizons and experiences to learn from? when i THINK about a narrow-minded person, my head hurts cos i feel like that kind of person is just walking around with a HUGE nutcracker wrapped around his/her head and it’s just squeezing hard and making his/her mind narrower and narrower… Doesn’t that give them headaches? don’t they want to remove that nut(head)cracker and just take a deep breath and feel their minds expand and receive more information, ideas and experiences?
it’s like that idiot-dude who wrote in Kuwait Times that Kuwait shouldn’t have sent money to the US for the people struggling to survive Katrina… Is his mind so squeezed and narrowed that it never occurred to him that the people who’re suffering from the disaster are just as human is any Kuwaiti? has it never occurred to him that there just MIGHT be children out there who’ll end up being the doctors he goes to when he’s suffering from some stupid disease and would want to go to the US for the better medical technology? has it never occurred to him that there ARE people in the US who want to be muslims only because they’re convinced that it’s the religion for them and not because they’re forced by some stupid ugly narrow-minded bearded guy?
i just don’t get how these people use their brains!?! i’m not ashamed to be a Kuwaiti because they’re kuwaitis too… I’m just ashamed that they even exist and give kuwaitis and muslims a bad name…
i don’t know what else to write on the subject, but all i know is that i’m even more cautious around Tarbia students and professors than i ever was before…
